Happy Fourth of July!
We hope everyone is enjoying their day off or a long weekend with their family and friends as we celebrate our wonderful country’s freedom!
As we celebrate this Fourth of July weekend, enjoy good company and good food, let’s remember to be safe, too.
Car Accidents and DWIs Prevalent this Holiday
In Texas, the Fourth of July holiday is one of the deadliest weekends for drunk driving crashes. In addition, it’s one of the busiest travel days of the year.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, half of all accidents that have occurred on the Fourth of July weekend over the past 25 years have involved alcohol.
Also, more than 40 percent of all July Fourth traffic deaths are alcohol-related, which is higher than New Year’s Eve.
Staying Safe this Fourth
The VanDeLoo Firm asks you to drink responsibly and drive safely. There are so many ways to prevent tragic accidents over the holiday. If you will be somewhere where alcohol will be served, please do one of the following:
- Choose a designated driver
- Call for a cab, Uber or another transportation service
- Drive in the right lane
- Avoid driving late at night or in the early hours of the morning
- Stay at the home of the person throwing the party
You can also call AAA Texas, which is partnering with several companies to deter drunk driving. Call 1-800-222-4357 or 1-800-AAA-HELP for a free tow home of up to 10 miles. AAA Texas encourages everyone — bartenders, drivers, restaurant owners, party hosts — to use this service if needed.
